Felony Child Abuse – Four Counts – Dane County (September 2026)
Result: Felony Charges Reduced and Dismissed; Deferred Prosecution Provides Path to Full Dismissal
Handled By: Attorney David K. Anderson
Summary: The client was charged with four felony counts of Physical Abuse of a Child – Recklessly Causing Harm, creating substantial exposure to felony convictions and the significant consequences that accompany them. Although the State’s evidence on the underlying allegations was relatively weak, proceeding to trial still carried substantial risk because of the seriousness of the charges and the uncertainty inherent in any felony trial. Attorney Anderson negotiated a resolution that dramatically reduced that exposure. Two of the felony charges were dismissed outright, while the remaining two were amended to misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct charges and resolved through a deferred prosecution agreement. Upon successful completion of the deferred prosecution program, those remaining charges will also be dismissed. The resolution allowed the client to avoid felony convictions while creating a clear path to the complete dismissal of the case.
